Why is it important to use Creative Commons media? How might a blogger take advantage of Creative Commons as both a user and a creator?

It’s important to use Creative Commons media so the blogger can avoid any unnecessary lawsuits or copyright fees. Even if they take down a post after realizing their mistake, it may be too late. Having to pay for a picture that you might even have to take down could be unnecessarily stressful and just avoidable all together. Creative Common seems to make it easy for users to search for pictures they may be able to post. While it may be somewhat of a hassle, it may be worth it to avoid any troubles.

It’s also important because then, creators of those pictures may feel safe about the copyrights of their works not being violated. If they have copyrighted their pictures then they obviously are trying to ensure that no one uses their pictures without his/her permission. So essentially, the creator could take advantage of Creative Commons by helping to ensure that his/her wishes are fulfilled. So that, the creator’s picture isn’t used or altered in a way that they were not intending.

Creative Common helps both the user and creator by protecting them both from any unnecessary problems.

Temptalia is beauty blog which features, primarily, swatches, dupes, and product reviews. She has a wide variety of products and posts quite often. I like that she has categories positioned at the top of her blog for easy access to the different pages. Her layout is pretty simple, which makes it easy to understand and navigate the pages. However, I don’t very much care for the mass amounts of ads. I understand she gets paid to display them on her blog, but they overwhelm the page and distract from her posts. I also like that she has sub-categories listed under most of the main categories. She has a search bar which is very helpful as well, although, I do not particularly care for the layout of the search results. Most of her posts are sweet and simple. I like that they incude links to each product and retail prices as well.

From Head to Toe is a beauty blog created by a YouTuber. Her layout is very cute but lacks the easily accessible category display that Temptalia’s blog had. There’s not much organization as to where to find different posts. You kind of just have to scroll through the archive or there are some things “labeled” but the label bar is all the way on the bottom right hand side of the page, which I would not have seen if I didn’t scroll down. Because this blogger is a YouTuber, she does not include a lot of writing, but rather the link to her videos. While I like that she links her videos to her blog and vice versa, I would have liked it better if she included a little bit more information. It seems redundant for her blog to contain mostly videos when she could be elaborating on the information in each video in her blog posts.

The Beauty Department is yet another beauty blog. I really like this blog because they provide easy picture tutorials, as well as, a detailed, written description. This blog also provides category tabs at the top of the page for easy navigation and I really like the cute theme. Unlike Temptalia’s blog, tbd does not have a million and two ads on their pages so it’s a lot more pleasing to the eyes and less confusing.

Sabrina Lui

Hi, my name is Sabrina Lui. I am from Long Island, New York, which everyone always confuses with Staten Island and sometimes even Rhode Island…

smh

Found on troll.me

Anyway…I am a senior, majoring in Political Science and History, as well as, minoring in English. Even though I am a senior, I won’t be gradating until next semester, hopefully. After I graduate, I’d like to potentially attend law school or find a job, whichever comes first really. Although, I’d prefer to find a job first, as the idea of law school scares the ish out of me.

Other random things about me:

  • I do not have my drivers’ license
  • I’m really OCD about numbers and colors
  • I like to snowboard
  • I have a really loud sneeze (sorry in advance for anybody I scare during allergy season…)
  • I am an only child
  • I love to shop
  • I like to play with makeup
  • If I could spend my life traveling, I would

I originally came across this class when my cousin and I were trying to find interesting classes for him to take this semester. When we found this one, I just decided to take it with him. It interested me because, for one, it is listed under Creative Writing, which I have always enjoyed and also, I have been interested in starting a blog for a while now but just never found the time to actually start. I really enjoy playing with makeup, as previously mentioned, so I’d like to start a blog which features tutorials, reviews, and other beauty related content.

Some of the products I’d like to review will be from beauty boxes I subscribe to. These beauty boxes are subscriptions in that they are like magazines, they come once a month and have unique products to try each time. Each box comes with about 5 sample products. My favorite subscription is Birchbox for only $10 a month. Another beauty subscription I subscribe to is Ipsy. Ipsy’s also good because they host an event in Los Angeles every year, where you have the opportunity to learn from famous beauty bloggers and YouTubers such as Michelle Phan and Promise Phan.

Eventually, I’d like to start a YouTube channel to post tutorials, reviews, and whatnot on but I’m a bit video shy, so I figured blogging would be the first place to start. I’m excited to learn new things about creating and maintaining a blog in this class.
